The Why-Why Girl is a fantastic story about the power of questioning. This is a true story about Moyna, a feisty 10-year-old girl belonging to the Shabar tribe. Moyna is extremely curious and is constantly asking ‘why’ for everything. Moyna’s curiosity along with her ability to stand up for herself, catches the eye of Mahasweta Devi (the author) who urges her to read and write so that she can get answers to all her questions. At Chhoti Udaan we learnt two important things from this book, first, we learnt from Moyna that our ability to stand up for ourselves and demand what is our right is not determined by our social/economic status and second, we learnt from the author that as adults it is our duty to foster curiosity in children and they should be empowered to finding answers.
